What is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy?
For many years, therapy would concentrate on the problem, on the source of the issues that are being experienced to find answers. Sigmund Freud (1856 - 1939) was a founder of Psychoanalysis. His theory was that all clients issues could be traced back to a moment in time and once that was recognized, then an answer could be forthcoming.
Similar therapies throughout the ensuing years have followed a similar path, in the belief that the cause of the problem is the lynch pin to finding the answer. Aversion therapies expose people to what they fear in a repeated fashion until the client becomes desensitized.
The wonderful thing about Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (SFH) is in it's title. Using SFH we help clients to move forward by concentrating their thoughts on the way ahead. If you constantly look back at the problem there is a danger that you will give it more weight and meaning than it truly deserves. Your thoughts are concentrating on a deep rooted problem that you may have lived with for years. However, SFH allows us to accept the existence of the problem, but then to concentrate on the journey forward. The most liberating time can often be the moment when you realize that there is a way forward. The more we more onward, the more forward thinking we become and the further we find ourselves from the problem that was overwhelming our lives.
